You gotta love hip chic New Yorkers! Wednesday afternoon Feb. 11th 2009, I see a woman standing in the middle of the street on Mott St.  She was actually looking down at her amazing purple fringed Louboutin’s of course…they’re called Tina Forever!!! I had to confirm what she already knew, she was working that look!!!!

Black outerwear is unnecessarily overused on the streets of NYC. That’s why I like this winter white piece from Mackage. It easily compliments a day to evening look, just like that…

Taxi Tips

Featured, Travel Tipson January 28th, 2009No Comments

734342331New York taxis are seen everywhere in the city especially on Manhattan Island. They provide convenient transportation except during heavy traffic periods when they become entangled in the pervasive grid lock. You can hail a cab anywhere in the city by simply stepping to the nearest curb and raising your hand to signal the taxis that you are seeking a ride.

Empty cabs have their numbers on top of the cab illuminated, while occupied cabs do not.
If you are traveling from one location in Midtown to another in Midtown, the ride will cost you about $5-7. A trip from Midtown to the downtown tip of the Island or to Uptown near Harlem will cost $10-15. A trip the whole length of the island from Downtown to Uptown will cost $20-25. A trip to one of the airports will cost about $35. If the cab driver is friendly, courteous and helps you with your luggage, it is customary to reward him or her with a few dollars as a tip.

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission has excellent information on all aspects of riding a taxi in the city, and links to the Taxicab Rider Bill of Rights. The highlights: air conditioning on request, free use of the trunk, and a driver that knows the streets of Manhattan and major destinations in the other boroughs.

Be sure to always take your receipt, as it has the taxi’s medallion number on it. This can really help if you forget something in the cab!

STYLE IN THE CITY is dedicated to celebrating individual style on the streets of New York City! This particular Sunday afternoon, I saw this lovely Japanese tourist on Madison Avenue dressed in an exquisite white fur dress. She happily obliged when I asked her if she would strike a pose. It reminded me of a time when people looked their very best to walk on Madison!

This fashionista was on her way to a Holiday bash, can’t you tell?  She was sure to be the life of the party with her red fur coat and matching fur hand warmer…her amazing hat was hunter green with stunning long exotic feathers, and her suit was hunter green velour with intricate beading …trust this picture does not do her ensemble justice. I commented on how great she looked and the biggest smile appeared on her face..she obliged with the sweetest thank you…Merry Christmas!
