Coco de Mer comes to Nolita!

Eliza's Hot Pickson December 10th, 2009No Comments

There are quite a few shops in New York city that specialize in made-to-measure lingerie. Now London-based company Coco de Mer, purveyor of “erotic luxury” is opening its first store in New York City. The  inspiration for the shop gets it’s name from the Coco de Mer seed only found on two islands in the entire world. The Coco De Mer is a fruit that resembles both male & female anatomy.  The daughter of the founder of  The Body Shop, Sam Roddick, was inspired by this rare seed to open a shop filled with vintage-inspired silk intimates, erotic literature and boudoir accessories like the “Butterfly Merkin”, and the “Betony Vernon Pleasure Puff Ring”. The excitement doesn’t stop there, they also provide classes to learn more about sexual pleasure. We think made-to-measure lingerie coupled with the erotic luxury items found at Coco De Mer take oo-la-la around the world and back!

The largest United States warehouse club Costco opened its first store in Manhattan!  Why is this a big deal?  For quite a few reasons, one in particular…Costco carries great designer handbags such as Vuitton, Tods, Channel, and more that are deeply discounted! You must be a Costco member to visit the gigantic store, but as we all know membership does have it’s privileges!

Gucci Icon Pop-Up Shop

Eliza's Hot Pickson October 26th, 2009No Comments

Gucci popYesterday I visited the Gucci sneaker Pop-Up shop in Soho. The concept of a pop up store is reminiscent of a gallery with exhibitions.  Pop ups are rarely announced, quickly draw in the crowds, and then vanish! They serve to tease and generate buzz around their brand. The Gucci pop-up shop is exclusively on Crosby Street for two weeks only. They carry a limited selection of limited edition foot wear, mostly donned by sneaker aficionados. There are 18 styles, including two pieces for women and one designed by famed DJ and music producer Marc Ronson. I have to say I did like what I saw, and I would wear one of  the  styles for women. read more

Citizens of Humanity "Kelly" $149

The first day of Autumn is here again and I immediately think  denim. It’s back to storing summer denim and re-evaluating fall jeans. I always want jeans in my closet that I’ll wear without giving it too much thought. If  I overlook ones I almost never use, it’s time to donate them. Because I’m sure I’m not alone here, I thought I’d go ahead and share with you some great premium denim for fall 2009. If your the kind of woman who’s body looks great in any jeans there are some here that will make you look even hotter! If your the  woman who doesn’t get a good fit with $60 jeans, I promise it’s worth paying for premium denim, you will never go wrong with fit or quality. No matter what your shape there is a jean that is just right for you! It is a great feeling to go into your wardrobe and grab a pair of jeans that make you feel fab! read more

….So I’m running around in the city on a Tuesday afternoon, I bump into two childhood friends and were catching up on life on the downtown 4 train.  As were chatting on this crowded subway car,  I’m easily distracted by this adorable brightly colored hat. I liked how it stood out and complimented this  stylista’s gorgeous face. It almost showcased her personality. Darn, next stop is mine, I snap a photo as I’m still engaged in a full on conversation. read more

Ilse JacobsenHornbæk shows only two shoe collections annually, however she is known for her fab rub-rain-boots. The Scandinavian imports are fleece lined keeping your feet dry and toasty at all times… these rain boots are made of a full oil resistant rubber sole, and rubber upper. The signature lace up detail adds a lot of personality. Although they are easy to find in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Iceland you can find them at a few of my favorite spots in NYC! While it seems like all of New York is wearing Hunter rubber boots, I’m a fan of this one!

Let’s Talk Vintage…

While on the LES (The Lower East Side) on a warm Wednesday afternoon I knew I couldn’t leave without checking in at Hairy Mary’s Vintage & Design. It’s a feel good shop! I don’t know what happens when I visit but I become very nostalgic…I was talking to Susan who works there and she summed it up perfectly! She said it’s like walking into your Grandmother’s closet..yes! that’s it! It’s designed like a huge fun walk in closet that you could get lost in for hours, even though the space is small. There’s so much personality in this shop, the clothes are outrageous, the jewelry is cute, even the vanity pieces will make you say awwwwww. It’s full of color, and the art work which the owner Sharon Broit paints herself truly reflects the essence of the store’s spirit. I had to admit it makes me miss both my grandma’s who are no longer here. It is officially one of my favorite gems on the Lower East Side! Hot pick? Hell yea!
